Layout of Section 9
Section 9 is the front (west) half of the northernmost part of Hillcrest. It is bordered by Stanton Road to the west, Driveway A to the south, a grassy area separating it from Section 8 to the east and adjacent unmaintained land on the north. Unlike most sections at Hillcrest, neither Sections 8 or 9 are broken into blocks—they are sequentially numbered in a zig-zag pattern.
All lots in Section 9 are 4 graves wide. Although those along the driveway have more space, they are still numbered 1-4 in the books and most started counting along the driveway, leaving an odd space in the middle of the first two columns of lots. Space numbers within lots in this section begin at the driveway and (barely noticeable) grassy walkways between each block, So in the diagram below, the space numbers for all lots are as follows:
Walkway or Woods - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 | 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - Walkway or Driveway

Help with locating graves in Section 9
The names listed here are surnames on headstones, included to help find a block and for counting off rows to find other lot numbers. These are for the lots closest to Stanton Road.
Lot 1: Hudson
Lot 28: Phillips
Lot 29: Suttley (stone was knocked over by a car accident)
Lot 56: Middlebrooks
Lot 57: Lawrence Walker*
Lot 84: Hazel Walker*
Lot 85: Evans & Gilley
Lot 112: Medeiros
Lot 114: (one row back from the street): Neil & Bivins
*One headstone split between the two lots. (The family bought 5 spaces—all of 84 and the last space in 57. This is not unusual as the numbering system is just that, but sales could be any number of adjacent spaces in any direction or quantity.
Side note: There are no records of sales or burials in what would be lots 127–137, so they are not shown. They are written into the ledger book where this information was put for quick reference, but are blank. They also continued the original numbering beyond 140, including 141–148. All of these are blank as well, except—oddly—space 1 of Lot 148 is listed as Henry J. St. John who died 2/15/1967. This would be on the edge of this map to the left of Lot 120. We have not investigated this recent finding.
